Fruit Leather/ Fruit Strips
Zayb loves the Gerber Fruit Strips (Videshi version of Aam Papad). Its a healthy snack when you are traveling and on the go. Besides it has the goodness of fruit. I carried these for instant boost of energy when we took her swimming or to the park. Also because she liked them it was easy to get her to eat them willingly.
But these were becoming very expensive I decided to make them at home. I have already made them in 4 flavours. Mango, Apple, Pear and Cherry. The picture below is of the Pear variant.
So here is how you make it.
Ingredients:
1 cup fruit pulp of your choice
1 tspn lime juice
1 tspn sugar
Heat all the ingredients together in a saucepan on medium heat. Keep stirring so that the pulp doesn't burn. Keep doing this till the pulp thickens and begins to bubble.
Line an oven tray with butter paper. Coat the paper with some butter. Spread the pulp on the paper in a paper thin layer and put it in the oven at the lowest temperature for 30-40 minutes. keep checking to see if the pulp is drying out. You may have to keep the oven door slightly ajar towards the end to allow the steam to escape.
Let the tray sit in the oven after the 40 minutes are up till it cools down. Then place it in the fridge for an hour. After an hour the pulp should have set. Cut the paper into strips and peal the fruit strips of the paper and store in a air tight container.
Enjoy....
