Kulfi Flavored Yogurt for a Happy Tum Tum

So my little one (Zayb Aiyra, that’s her name) had a tummy bug a few days ago. It lasted 11 days. Our pediatrician who is also a good friend refused to give her any antibiotics or anti motility drugs, and suggested that we keep giving her fluids in order to avoid dehydration. I was giving her sago porridge, arrowroot water, rice porridge etc. All this was really helping in replenishing fluids and electrolytes. But nothing much was working with the diarrhea. Finally we decided to try yogurt. I would make some flavored yogurt for her after coming back from work and would let it set overnight. In the morning after a few sips of water this is the first thing I gave her. She was doing better on day 1 itself. 3 days of this home remedy was all that it took to completely wipe out the bug.

Coming back to the recipe. Zayb doesn’t like the taste of plain yogurt, hence I had to flavor it and she seemed to like it a lot.

Ingredients:
1 ½ cup milk
1 pinch sugar
Kesar or ground pista and ilaichi powder or mango pulp (I avoid using artificial essence or flavors for kids)

Boil 1 ½ cups of milk and a pinch of sugar till it reduces to ½ a cup. If you are using kesar you can boil it with the milk other wise add your choice of flavor once the milk is luke warm. After this mix in a tspm of curd culture and pour the milk from one bowl to another 10 times or more (like how the chaiwalas do). The milk will become a little frothy. At this stage pour it in a serving bowl, cover and let is set overnight. The yogurt you get in the morning will be very soft and creamy.
