Going No Poo: Homemade Shampoo Recipe

Hello Guys,

Over the last few months I have been taking little steps towards going green in every possible, practicable way. I  am trying to incorporate  natural, eco friendly, sustainable solutions in my daily life; and one of the initiatives I have taken in going no poo.

I have been reading about the no poo movement for a while and honestly my initial reaction was, 'whhat! no shampoo! icky!'. But it really isnt icky at all. You can have clean, fresh smelling hair without using shampoo.

I went no poo because chemicals like SLS found in shampoo not only strip your hair of its natural oils but also pollute the environment. Natural ingredients are not only safe, environmentally friendly, non carcinogenic, cheap but also nourishing and good for the hair.

There are many no poo applications that you will read about on the internet like baking soda and vinegar etc. But I made my 'all natural' shampoo with Reetha, Amla and Shikakai because i needed the luxury of some lather that comes with using reetha (soap nut)

Indredients:
100 grams reetha (soap nut)
50 grms amla powder
50 grms shikakai powder
1.5 liters of water

Soak the soap nut in water overnight. Boil the water with the soap nut the next morning till it reduces to half.

The soap nuts will become soft by now. Remove the seed from the nut and grind to a paste.

Strain this paste along with the water into a bottle, add the shikakai and amla powder and store. This is how it lathers.

You can keep a small bottle in the bathroom and store the rest in the refrigerator. Refill the bottle in the bathroom every week.

As this contains shikakai and amla in powder form you will need to rinse your hair a little more during every wash. But its totally worth it!

Go green!
